To submit flight requests for the NASA Airborne Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) in FY2019, visit the website below.

Please note that we are working to use the terms "imaging spectroscopy" and "imaging spectrometer data" rather than "hyperspectral." This allows us to communicate more clearly with our physics, chemistry, and biology science colleagues.

NASA's Airborne Science Program Online Flight Request System (SOFRS)
  • These requests are for data acquisitions during the period from October 2018 to September 2019.
  • AVIRIS investigators are requested to submit FY 2019 Flight Requests before September 30, 2018.
This request opportunity is for 4 m through 20 m spatial resolution AVIRIS data. AVIRIS is able to fly on the NASA ER-2 (15 - 20 m) and WB-57 (10 - 15 m), and the Commercial Proteus (6 - 10 m) and Twin Otter (4 - 6 m) aircraft. Not all of these platforms are available all the time and require scheduling in advance.

If you have a NASA related proposal or project that can be supported with AVIRIS acquisitions, it is important that you contact your program manager to notify them of your pending flight request. It is suggested that you submit a flight request to initiate a cost estimate for the Research Opportunity in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) Proposal process. Information on future ROSES can be found here:

http://nspires.nasaprs.com/external

Final approval of all flight requests is at the discretion of the discipline program manager and the suborbital science program manager. Investigators with other agencies interested in AVIRIS data acquistion should also submit a flight request.
