  • drive out to experiment location before sunrise; set up sun photometer at sunrise so it can track sun until after solar noon

  • set up two tarps, 240m apart, with a line of flags between them, 1 flag every 20m. line should be aligned with flightline of plane over playa

  • **collect several hundred spectra**  in the 200m region between the tarps (none in the 20m pixels closest to each tarp) to completely characterize this region.

  • derive average spectra for playa

  • derive atmospheric transmission values from sun photometer measurements

  • use playa spectra and atmospheric transmission to model at-AVIRIS radiance

  • locate tarps in AVIRIS image, and extract radiance of 10 pixels between them

  • compare this radiance with actual AVIRIS radiance, and compare results
