This document describes the hardware required and associated processes
for installing the AVIRIS sensor into the NASA ER-2 aircraft, and removing
it from same.
2.0 Equipment list
2.1 AVIRIS Sensor on cart
2.2 ER-2 aircraft
2.3 Camera hoist
2.4 Yellow AVIRIS Tee bar with cables
2.5 Red AVIRIS Tee bar support
2.6 3/16 ball driver
2.7 5/16" and 7/16" wrench
2.8 Flight bolts for rear and front mounts

3.0 AVIRIS ER-2 Installation
3.1 Position AVIRIS next to ER-2 Q-bay
3.2 Remove Red AVIRIS Tee bar support
3.3 Roll AVIRIS under ER-2 Q-bay opening
3.4 Reattach Red AVIRIS Tee bar support
3.5 Place Yellow AVIRIS Tee bar with cables on top of Red Tee
bar support
3.6 Attach Yellow AVIRIS Tee bar cables to two AVIRIS frame
lift points at the top of the rear corner frame components.
3.7 Attach front AVIRIS cable to Yellow AVIRIS Tee bar
3.8 Install ER-2 hoist assembly over Q-bay
3.9 Attach Camera Hoist cable to Yellow AVIRIS Tee bar
3.10 Take up slack in hoist cable, lifting weight off AVIRIS
cart pins
3.11 Remove AVIRIS cart pins
3.12 Raise AVIRIS using hoist until AVIRIS clears the
cart rear support
3.13 Remove AVIRIS cart rear support using 7/16" wrench
to remove bolts
3.14 Crank hoist handle such that AVIRIS rises clear of cart
3.15 Roll cart out of the way
3.16 Continue to hoist AVIRIS into the Q-bay, observing side
clearances and avoiding interference with aircraft cables or wire harnesses
3.17 Position AVIRIS frame rear mounts in ER-2 Q-bay mount flanges
3.18 Install flight bolts in rear mounts
3.19 Continue to hoist AVIRIS upward until front attachment
hole aligns with front hanger hole
3.20 Install front flight bolt
3.21 Tighten flight nuts on all three flight bolts using 5/16" and 7/16" wrenches.
3.22 Install AVIRIS GPS antenna in upper E-bay hatch
3.23 Install AVIRIS GPS/DGPS preamp and connect to GPS/DGPS
antenna using 1 foot long RF cable
3.24 Connect power, data, and GPS antenna cables from ER-2 to
AVIRIS
3.25 Perform an AVIRIS/ER-2 integration check by performing
an AVIRIS preflight with ER-2 aircraft power

4.8 Attach Camera Hoist cable to Yellow AVIRIS Tee bar
4.9 Loosen flight nuts on all three flight bolt using 5/16" and 7/16" wrenches.
4.10 Take up slack in hoist cable, lifting weight off AVIRIS
flight bolts
4.11 Remove front flight bolt
4.12 Lower AVIRIS slightly until weight is off the rear flight
bolts
4.13 Remove rear flight bolts
4.14 Position cart under Q-bay
4.15 Remove cart?s rear mount assembly
4.16 Lower AVIRIS out of Q-bay until rear mount holes are below
top of cart
4.17 Replace cart?s rear mount assembly and bolt into place with 7/16" wrench
4.18 Position rear mount holes into rear mount supports
4.19 Install rear support pins
