The AVIRIS (Airborne Visible/InfraRed Imaging Spectrometer) project provides calibrated data from an airborne sensor to customers in NASA, NOAA, EPA, USGS, academia, and industry. The AVIRIS project is catagorized as follows:

AVIRIS TASK MANAGEMENT
- Management of the AVIRIS task at JPL
- Operation tasks planning and scheduling
- Communication with and between the AVIRIS task, NASA headquarters, JPL and the Dryden aircraft operations
- Monitoring and reporting AVIRIS status
- AVIRIS task travel, logistic, graphic, documentation

CALIBRATION AND VALIDATION SCIENCE
- Validation of AVIRIS laboratory calibration measurements

EXPERIMENT COORDINATION AND MISSION PLANNING
- Year-round data acquisition planning with the investigator, Dryden, AVIRIS task, and NASA HQ
- Maintain AVIRIS flight planning reports in conjunction with Dryden for investigator updates
- Represent and communicate with investigator before, during and after each data launch and flight
- Post-flight debriefing of the pilot for data acquisition record
- Transfer of ship disk and flight log to the AVIRIS Instrument Ground Data System (IGDS) at JPL for data decommutation and data processing
- Report AVIRIS data status to Dryden following analysis at the data facility
DATA DECOMMUTATION, CALIBRATION AND DISTRIBUTION
- Management of the IGDS activities and logistics
- Decommutation and archiving of AVIRIS data
- Monitoring instrument performance from acquired data
- Generation and upload of quick-look images to AVIRIS website
- Execute data processing pipeline to produce L1B and L2 data products
- Monitoring quality of L1B and L2 data products
- Maintain AVIRIS specific software
- Maintenance of system hardware and software
- Limited support to visiting scientists
- Distribution of L1B and L2 data products via FTP or hard drive to Investigator(s)
